In commemoration of its 140 year anniversary, the Granite Club was on a mission to preserve and celebrate its legacy in sport–particularly its preeminent curling history. Founded originally as a curling club back in 1875, the Granite was known for its prestige and mastery of the sport. Generations of Granite curlers had participated in (and become champions of) the Ontario Tankard, one of Ontario’s most prestigious curling championships.
Tankard winners were awarded championship banners, many of which were in the Club’s possession and prominently displayed in their curling rink. After decades on display, the banners were in need of maintenance and repair. As Curator of the Club’s collection, I was charged with creating replica banners to replace the originals in need of repair, and producing replacement banners for those that had been lost over time. Based off of historical research, the result was a colourful display aimed to bolster a sense of pride and community amongst Club members.
